Enjoy a romantic get away in our straw bale barn, where you can relax surrounded by the beautiful countryside.
Once an artist’s studio, now a peaceful, cosy couples retreat filled with character and charm in the grounds of an old farmhouse
Stepping into Beacon Hill Barn you feel instantly at home. It’s an unfussy place, with a character and colour that make you smile, relax and unwind. Downstairs is where you’ll spend most of your time, cooking in the kitchen with gas hobs and a microwave, soaking in the long tub in the bathroom and curled up on the sofa, listening to the crackle of the wood-burner. The warmth drifts up to the bedroom nook too, where you slip between the beams of the house and lie looking out at the garden through the porthole window. In the morning, you can take coffee out to the swinging chair behind the barn and watch for the deer that often graze in the garden, or the owner’s cats, who might visit at some point during your stay.
Beacon Hill is right between the Cotswolds and the Chilterns, giving you access to plenty of great hiking between quiet stone villages and, more importantly, their cosy country pubs. Owner Antony can recommend a few favourites, including the easily walkable Sow & Pigs, a half mile away in Poundon. History buffs can drop into Oxford and wander the quadrangles of the famous colleges, or head east to Bletchley and see the home of the legendary Codebreakers of WWII. Or, in the spirit of the studio built for Antony’s artist wife, you could simply relax and enjoy the light in the woods, with sketch books or paintbrush in hand.
