These hand painted wedding cakes are simply Romantic and delicious!

The star of this wedding inspired photoshoot has to be the hand painted wedding cakes. All these wedding cakes are hand painted, yes, you read that right, hand painted!! I just love the detail and romance of the hand painted wedding cakes which are a work of art to themselves. There is no way I could cut these cakes. I would rather look at them everyday like a sculpture, a work of art. However, they even taste delicious so not only look incredible. Elizabeth is truly a very talented lady. Your guests will certainly be wowed by them.

My favourite image has to be the towering hand painted wedding cakes with the pop of yellow flowers. This image mirrors the yellow walls of The Yellow Room beautifully. The pastel colours with a pop of colour are utterly Romantic. The English countryside garden classic roses and peonies, which are plentiful in the extensive grounds, are added to with a touch of wild nature, a brilliant contrast to the formal gardens looking out into the wild countryside. This wedding shoot is floral and nature inspired and the flowers steal the show.

This is another photoshoot inspired by the Romance and countryside of Poundon House.  The creative team of wedding professionals who created these beautiful images have really used the backdrop of the interiors and exteriors beautifully. The attention to detail of the floral inspiration is shown from the wild-flower inspired bouquets to the cakes and the stationary.

The images have recently featured on another of our favourite top wedding blogs, Strictly Weddings.

The wedding ideas are styled by Charlotte Munro. Every detail is completely enchanting from Elizabeth’s Cake Emporium’s hand painted cake masterpieces to The Wedding Club’s lovely selection of designer gowns featuring Savannah Miller, Berta and Naeem Khan. We could spend all day getting lost in this gorgeous editorial, thanks to Photography by Anna Marie’s stunning portrayal.

Blending Modern Romance with Bohemian Chic

Pastel English Countryside photoshoot features on top wedding blog

A wedding blog is a really popular resource for wedding ideas. I can spend hours browsing through and getting ideas for our couples. Many are now more popular than some of the traditional magazines with millions of followers on their social media. They are full of creative ideas they can be updated daily with new images and inspiration.  A fun way to get ideas for your wedding planning styling!

One of our favourite wedding blogs is Rock My Wedding. So we were thrilled when Sharn of Desi Bride Dreams, a wedding planner and wedding stylist who also has a great Asian wedding blog, told us that her recent photoshoot at Poundon House has featured not only on Strictly Weddings but also now on Rock My Wedding.

Rock My Wedding is a fantastic wedding blog resource for ideas & suppliers. Its really worth having a browse to feel inspired and is one of our top ten wedding blogs.

Sharn’s inspiration came from wanting to mix Asian elegance with English classical so Poundon House provides a perfect canvas.  The results are simply stunning!

We really love having photoshoots at the house and grounds and seeing how different creatives use the venue for inspiration. The sari’s and clothes on this shoot are just beautiful, and combined with the pastel summer colours of pale pinks and blues, the gold on the plates and vases, the sun setting in the background, we really love these photos.

Make yourself a cup of tea and get ready to immerse yourself in this gorgeous wedding blog inspiration with beautiful photography by wedding photographer Anneli Marinovich.

The History and Interiors at Poundon House

Since our parents brought the house from the Post Office over 35 years ago, the interiors at Poundon House have been lovingly restored room by room. The house also has a very interesting history, having been used during the second world war to help break the Enigma Code. During its use by the Post Office, many rooms were boarded up, including the fireplaces, floorboards etc in order to protect the interiors. We love when we meet people who were based at the house during this time, to hear how it used to be in this fascinating part of its history.

Poundon House was built in 1908 by Col. John Heyward Lonsdale when he married a Miss Parker Bowles who lived locally. The house is built of sandstone from the quarry at Eydon near Banbury and the stone was hauled up from the Marsh Gibbon station by teams of horses.

In 1939 the house was requisitioned for the war by the Foreign and Colonial Office.

During the war the house was used by the Post Office and formed a part of the huge effort to break the Engima Code. This code had to be broken anew each day and the number of people working on the project nationwide was over 10,000. Although the Germans considered the code unbreakable they had not taken into account what the inventive English could achieve with intelligence and tremendous hard work. Co-incidentally our great aunt worked on the project at Bletchley House!

During the war a bomb was dropped at the end of the drive.

After the war the house continued to be used for the gathering of intelligence in the cold war. Poundon Hill radio station has direct line of sight to the Ukraine and was used by the GCHQ until 10 years ago.

Our father bought the house in 1979 when the Foreign and Colonial Office relinquished their lease, and it has been a private family home ever since.

The house still retains much of its Edwardian character, with the reception rooms and bedrooms restored to their Edwardian style. The nine bedrooms are spacious, ideal for preceding preparations, and there are shared bathrooms. Decorated with a classic style, the reception rooms are grand but not at all intimidating, all interlinked and south facing.’

You can read more on the interiors as featued by Coco Wedding Venues here.

With over 9 bedrooms & 5 receptions rooms, its been a labour of love. The interiors of the house have featued in many editorial magazines, from World of Interiors, House and Garden to Homes and Antiques.

Mita and Nathan’s stunning Fusion Wedding features on Coco Wedding Venues Blog

Mita and Nathan’s stunning Fusion Wedding features on Coco Wedding Venues Blog. With both a Civil Ceremony and a Hindu Blessing it had lots of colour, love and logisitcs!

The photography by Matt Horan who beautifully captured their day.

This is what Mita says about the venue:

Mita: Nathan and I got married at the beautiful Poundon House in Oxfordshire. The family run Country House is set in private grounds boasting amazing views of the Oxfordshire countryside. There were so many reasons why we chose Poundon House; it is a stunning property and expertly run by a lovely family. Despite its grand nature it always felt intimate and welcoming, like you were staying in a family home and Esmond and his family were amazingly accommodating.

It was the first venue we looked at and we simply fell in love with its charm and history. The venue definitely gave us the stunning backdrop and ‘wow’ factor we wanted and provided the perfect “English Country” setting to our colourful fusion wedding.

As we were having two ceremonies, one of the key factors was to find a venue which would allow us exclusive use from the early morning to the late evening. Poundon House provided us with exclusive use for the whole weekend, which was amazing. Our wedding felt like a true escape. Poundon House offered a range of possibilities for your wedding day, each part of the house and grounds is a perfect as the next so it enabled us to plan our day to maximise the space.

Nehal and Rob’s colourful Hindu Ceremony

Nehal and Rob’s colourful Hindu Ceremony photographs can be seen on Martin Price’s blog. This was a wonderful wedding with a Hindu Ceremony followed by Wedding Recepetion in the Marquee.

Here at Poundon House, we are really experienced at hosting Hindu Ceremony’s. We have over 10 years now of hosting weddings, so that’s a fair few weddings we’ve now helped to organise!

Martin: Nehal and Rob’s Poundon House Hindu Ceremony was another one of the highlights of my year, with so much colour and so much going on to photograph. Poundon is one of my favourite venues and this was my fourth wedding there this year.

I was accompanied for the day by my good friend and very talented photographer Gemma Chase. With so many guests and their love of many impromptu group photos, a second photographer is usually a must have add on for a Hindu wedding. It also meant that while I took Nehal and Rob away for their couple portraits and during the formal group photos, Gemma was able to continue with candid photos to make sure nothing was missed.

Just prior to the ceremony Rob made his ‘official’ arrival at the venue by tuk tuk accompanied by dhol drummers and the guests. It was certainly a spectacular entrance and the noise from the drums made sure it couldn’t go unnoticed. It was then on to the ceremony itself in a magnificent mandap on Poundon’s rear terrace.

The tuk tuk was used again following the Hindu ceremony for Nehal and Rob’s official departure. This gave an opportunity for the traditional blackmailing of the groom as Nehal’s sisters blocked it’s progress. Eventually they were allowed to depart but not until after some hard negotiations and a cash payment.

Following the speeches, the evening entertainment began with a demonstration from a pair of Bollywood dancers. The guests were then invited onto the dance floor for a Bollywood dancing workshop. Almost every guest took part and it certainly got them all in the mood to dance the night away!

The colour and love that shines out in Nehal and Rob’s wedding is really brightening up our day. What a summer it was! take a peep on the blog Martin Price Photography. Martin is a regular at Poundon House and photographs many of our weddings. He really captures the colour and atmosphere of the day, as well as the little details.

Bex & Ben’s wedding feature on Coco Wedding Venues

So wonderful reading about Rebecca and Ben’s Wedding day on Coco Wedding Venues blog, we are so happy for you both!

Rebecca: ‘My parents own Willis Flowers in Stony Stratford, my Dad mentioned that he’d delivered wedding flowers to Poundon House and that it was absolutely stunning. We went to their next open day and immediately fell in love. It was the second venue and the last venue that we viewed.’

My Maid of Honour and I went to Sin City itself for a real Bachelorette send off into married life and whilst we were there I purchased my wedding shoes from Christian Louboutin, The Forum at Caesers Palace. I mean why not?!

Being a busty Bride, visible cleavage was no no! The Justin Alexander gown that I chose gave me the perfect coverage but still with the satin sweetheart neckline underneath. The full lace gown with satin underlay and chocolate box bow fit perfectly with the classic look we were going for.

When it came to accessories less was more, the dress said all it needed to on its own. I wore a long chain Pandora heart locket that my husband bought me as a gift on the day, I attached Ben’s Grandmas wedding band and a ring that my Nana had bought me when I was 13 to represent the two of them who could not be with us on the day….

Fatima and Zaraf’s Fusion Wedding feature in Khush Magazine

Fatima and Zaraf’s Fusion Wedding feature in Khush Magazine

Finding a venue was tough as I had something really specific in mind. I needed a home away from home, somewhere in the countryside where we could spend time outdoors and which would be flexible with what we wanted to do. And that’s what I found in Poundon House. It couldn’t have been more perfect.

‘Poundon House has a huge marquee in the back, which is already set up for weddings, so we didn’t go overboard with our own decorations.  Instead of a top table we chose 5 main tables so our parents could enjoy spending time with their friends and family who had travelled from afar for the wedding. Each of these tables were decorated with a sequined silver table cloth which my mum had commissioned especially.’

Fatima and Zaraf really wanted a Fusion wedding, with so many family based in Pakistan, Kashmiri & Bangladesh yet the couple grew up & live in London, they really wanted their wedding to represent all these cultures and parts of their lives. Music is another element that they could mix the cultural heritage – from Dhol players to harpists.

So much about their day was unique. The photographers are based in New Zealand and happened to be travelling Europe. The dress was designed by Fatima – the fabric is from Dolce and Gabbana, a floral silk, and it just looks so fitting and romantic in a country house garden wedding along with the stationary and table cloths.

With so many guests having travelled from around the world to be there for the weekend, Fatima and Zaraf also wanted their guests to relax and enjoy themselves, so the day was informal, fun and unique.

The photo booth was a tuk tuk, a really fun idea to create photos that are keepsakes for all the guests and a family to look back on, as well as a great way to mix East and West to create the Fusion feeling. In keeping with the fun and informal feeling, there were also giant garden games like Jenger which is a great idea if you have lots of children to kee them entertained – and for the grown up too!

The flowers were by Jessica Rose Flowers, who Fatima’s mother organised. The colours of the flowers really tie in with the dress, blushed pinks and deep reds, as well as the floral design of the dress.

And we haven’t even mentioned how they met and the engagement, which you can read here in full blog in Khush Magazine.

Thankyou Eneka Stewart Photography

A huge thank-you to Eneka Stewart Photography for taking superb photos for &Sister #‎Retreats‬ & ‪#‎WellBeing‬ website.

We love your Wedding photography, and these images of Mischa and Poundon House Retreats are incredible too. More info on our retreats can be seen on the website and Facebook page.

Back in November I had a pleasure of taking part in a Yoga Retreat at Poundon House. Poundon House is an elegant mansion house, located on the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire border in a beautiful countryside setting. It has a perfect atmosphere for a yoga retreat and it is run by Natalie & Alicia – sisters & owners of the venue.

Mischa Varmuza, an experienced and devoted yogi was the yoga teacher over the long weekend and she is the sweetest and kindest person. Also, she showed me the most amazing yoga poses that if I will ever be able to do, then I think my life will be complete :).

Natalie & Alicia had thought and planned every single detail to make the guests lives as comfortable and relaxed as possible. Everyone had easy access to delicious nutritional fruit bars and a great selection of hot herbal teas. They also provided tasty and healthy food; and there was plenty of free time to take a walk in the countryside or relax in the warm bath tub and read a book.

I would highly recommend taking part in one of Poundon House’s regular yoga retreats; it will relax and refresh your body & mind.
